Mike and Bob Bryan ended their 2009 season in fine style by clinching the doubles title at the ATP World Tour Finals yesterday (November 29th).
The American twins gained revenge for their loss against seventh seeds Max Mirnyi and Andy Ram in the round-robin stages with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 success at London's O2 Arena.
As a result, the Bryans moved above last year's champions Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic to finish the campaign as the number one-ranked pairing in the world.
"It's pretty much what we play for, that's the goal - play well in the Slams, but the ultimate goal is to finish number one," said Bob Bryan.
"We felt like it was stolen from us last year, now we kind of crept up on those guys and stole it from them this year. We feel like it's a little bit of a payback."
Mike Bryan added that playing in front of 17,000 spectators in almost every match - plus a sizable television audience - represented an "unbelievable" showcase for doubles.
The Bryans have won 58 ATP Tour titles during their careers, including seven Grand Slam successes.
