Tomas Berdych has insisted that he has no problem with Rafael Nadal as the duo prepare to square off in first Davis Cup final match tomorrow (December 3rd).
The Czech caused controversy when he upset Spanish tennis fans during a clash with the world number two in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters in 2006.
Berdych was seen putting his finger to his lips in a hushing motion directed at the crowd after rounding off an impressive straight-sets victory over the 23-year-old.
Although he can expect a hostile reception when he steps out on to the court at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Berdych believes the incident is now water under the bridge.
"There's no problem between Rafael and I - I don't think this will play a part in this game," he said.
"He's going to play at home and he's going to play on his favourite surface. I think he's going to be at his best."
Nadal, who later described Berdych as a "bad person" for his actions, has also moved to dismiss speculation of any long-lasting resentment towards the world number 20.
"I have an excellent relationship with Berdych. He made a mistake, I made a mistake and that's it," he said.
The Spaniard has beaten Berdych in their last four tennis meetings, including a 6-4, 7-5 success at this year's ATP Cincinnati Masters, which took place prior to the US Open in August.
